Def Leppard's Phil Collen: Joe Elliott's Voice 'All Back to Normal'
Def Leppard had to shut things down earlier this year when frontman Joe Elliott had vocal issues that hampered his participation in the band’s own cruise and caused the postponement of tour dates. But according to guitarist Phil Collen, the doctor’s order of rest has done the trick and the singer will be good to go on their next leg of tour dates.
Speaking with Corpus Christi, Texas radio station C101 (heard in the player below), Collen offered an update on Elliott’s status. “He’s great,” stated Collen. “We toured nine months last year and Joe was actually touring with walking pneumonia for most of the time. And when he got better… He actually got a nasty cough just after Christmas, after pneumonia had gone, [he got] this awful hacking cough. So that’s really what kind of messed him up.”
He went on to add, “When we’d done these dates in Florida… We’d only done one show and, all of a sudden, his voice just kind of went out. And the doctor said, ‘Look, you’ve gotta stop singing for a month.’ So he’s doing great now. He’s actually all back to normal.”
The band will return to the road in May, teaming up with fellow rock vets Styx and Tesla for dates. Ticketing details and VIP package info can be found here.
