Phil Collen Says He Thinks He's an Official Member of Def Leppard Now
Phil Collen just finished the first leg of the North American tour with Def Leppard, but he’s far from slowing down.
In addition to releasing a new self-titled studio album with the band at the end of the month, Def Leppard’s guitarist has authored a memoir: Adrenalized: Life, Def Leppard, and Beyond, due out in stores on October 27th.
Collen joined Karlson & McKenzie on the phone on Wednesday morning to talk about the new book that follows the band on their struggle-filled road to super stardom.
Kevin Karlson wondered how much credit Collen has received, having not been an “official” member of the band at the start. Collen recalled how the band asked him to help them out.
“[They said] be a lead guitarist and just play all over [these songs], do whatever you want to do, which was so much fun,” said Collen. “I had no idea – as none of us did – that the album would blow up and all of a sudden these songs that I was just goofing off on would become these big hits and all over the radio.”
